THEMATRANS NEWS – An eventful and chaotic return to the transport planet!

Dear Clients,

The new season is already well underway, bringing its share of challenges.

This year, September is marked by exceptional weather phenomena that will impact your road, air, and sea operations. Below is a summary of the ongoing disruptions.

Storm Boris in Central Europe

Storm Boris has severely affected several Central European countries, causing floods and fallen trees. These conditions are disrupting transportation infrastructures and may cause delays in shipments. The most affected areas are:

  • Congestions portuaires accrues.
  • Poland : regions of Wroclaw and Katowice
  • Czech Republic : regions of Narod, Brno, Olomouc, Hradec Králové
  • Austria : Vienna, Graz, Linz, Sankt Pölten

Wildfires in Portugal

Significant fires are currently affecting the north of Portugal. The closure of highways south of Porto is disrupting road traffic, which may affect access to the region’s ports and airports.

Typhoon Bebinca in China

Shanghai is facing Typhoon Bebinca, the most powerful in 75 years. Authorities have suspended transport links, recalled ships to port, and cancelled all flights from 8:00 PM Sunday. Rail services have also been interrupted. These measures are causing major disruptions in international trade.
This new typhoon follows Storm Yagi, which recently struck several countries in the region—primarily Vietnam and Myanmar, but also Laos, Thailand, and China. These extreme conditions had already disrupted port and airport infrastructures, leading to flight suspensions and delays in maritime traffic.
The Asia-Pacific region is therefore heavily affected at this start of the year, and significant disruptions in air and sea transport are to be anticipated.

Impact on Your Transportation

Due to these events, we anticipate:

  • Delays in air and sea deliveries to or from the affected areas
  • Route modifications, which may lead to additional delays
  • Possible increase in transportation rates due to reduced capacities and resource reallocation, especially in air freight; maritime freight should be less affected
